Research interests and available projects

Our broad research goals are all centred on spinor Bose-Einstein condensates (hence the lab name). Since the commissioning of our apparatus, we have used spinor BEC to explore

  • Precise measurement of magnetic fields at the microscale,
  • Measuring and cancelling magnetic field gradients/vector light shifts,
  • Non-destructive imaging techniques, and
  • Wavefunction engineering.

We have projects available to third year, honours and postgraduate students, on topics such as

  • Ultracold magnonics and spin wave engineering,
  • Machine learning for real-time quantum measurements,
  • Quantum state tomography of an evolving spinor condensate, and
  • Approaching the spacetime limit of magnetometry.
