Apparatus used to measure vector light shifts

The position and amplitude of each dipole trapping beam is controlled by an acousto-optic modulator (AOM); introducing a second rf frequency to an AOM allows independent control of two dipole beams propagating along the same direction. Splitting either the x’- or z’-oriented dipole beams into two beams allows us to position two BECs along the axial extent of a third, orthogonal beam.
